- He and two others were sentenced to death by the Ratnapura High Court over a 2015 shooting at an election rally in Kahawatte, and later acquitted by the Court of Appeal. Hearing an appeal against the acquittal, the Supreme Court ordered the three to appear on 21 October 2026 and banned them from travelling overseas.
